Skilled Laborers

We are looking for skilled laborers to work on marine construction projects in Chesapeake, VA and Baltimore, MD. Must be willing to travel.

Works on various construction projects by transferring from one task to another where demands require a worker with various experience and ability to work with or without close supervision by performing the following duties:

• Assists with mooring vessels to wharves, tie up vessels to another vessel, or rig towing lines.
• Assists with loading and unloading material from barges and boats.
• Performs maintenance of traffic and flagging.
• Performs job site housekeeping duties.
• Assists with measuring distances from grade stakes, drive stakes, and stretches tight line.
• Bolts, nails, aligns, and blocks up under forms.
• Signals operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
• Assists with leveling earth to fine grade specifications.
• Assists with mixing concrete.
• Assists with smoothing and finishing freshly poured cement, mortar, or concrete.
• Assists with positioning, joining, aligning, and sealing pipe sections.
• Assists with erecting scaffolding, shoring, and braces.
• Mops, brushes, or spreads paint or bituminous compounds over surfaces for protection.
• Sprays materials such as water, sand, steam, vinyl, paint, or stucco through hose to clean, coat, or seal surfaces.
• Applies caulking compounds by hand or with caulking gun to seal crevices.
• Assists with demolishing structures, saws lumber, dismantles forms, removes projections from concrete, mounts pipe hangers, and cuts and attaches insulating materials.
• Works in a safe and responsible manner at all times.

Qualifications:

Ability to follow directions; Handle basic hand tools, such as shovel, pick, broom, hammer, saw, paint brushes, etc. Light or heavy handling; Job site housekeeping; Flagging; Erect construction signs, cones, etc.

Education and/or experience: Minimum six months related experience and/or training.

Language skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

Mathematical skills: Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.

Reasoning ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or twostep instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

Certificates, licenses, registrations: Merchant Marine and Able-Bodied Seaman credentials preferred.

Work environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The work environment is on barges, boats and floating equipment, and accessing the work site may require climbing from barges, boats and floating equipment when they are at different levels above the water. The employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to high precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, occasionally loud.

Physical demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must regularly work or walk on uneven ground on onboard floating equipment. Access and egress to barges, boats and piers requires ability to do so from moving surfaces due to water motion.

Expected base pay range for this position is: $21.00/hr - $28.00/hr

This compensation range is specific to the job level and takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to: education, experience, licensure, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity. The range has been created in good faith based on information known to Kokosing at the time of the posting. Compensation decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each case. This salary range does not include any potential incentive pay or benefits, however, such information will be provided separately when appropriate.
