About the role

 

The Manager, State Management supports the State Management team's efforts to launch new states in a compliant manner and manage the growth and profitability of the auto insurance product in existing states. This person will work under the direction of State Management AVPs who lead the development and continuous improvement of the state insurance product (coverage, policy language and other forms, underwriting eligibility, pricing, operations/processes), execute any needed regulatory filings, and communicate business requirements to Technology and Operations. This person may also assume such accountability in smaller market(s) as they develop the skills and experience necessary to promote to the AVP role. This role will partner closely with key business and operations teams across the organization – including Customer Engagement, Product Enablement, Technology, Legal, and Claims. This team member will conduct regulatory/legislative and competitive research, gather data and perform analyses, and pursue process improvements.

 

JOB DUTIES

  • Support the strategy and execution of auto insurance product launches in new states, including conducting research, performing competitive analysis, drafting filing materials, managing operational changes, communicating business requirements to technology, and testing compliance to requirements
  • Assist in the design of new data reports that help State Management understand how the insurance product is performing in market
  • Analyze drivers of P&L and work cross-functionally to identify and execute remedies when targets are not met
  • Seek continuous improvement in risk classification, eligibility standards, coverage and rating
  • Develop hypotheses and seek out new ideas and approaches to business challenges and opportunities

  • You possess the required knowledge and understanding of personal auto insurance, including working knowledge of the insurance policy, underwriting, pricing and state regulation
  • You have experience developing and implementing creative and effective solutions to complex business issues
  • You are knowledgeable of direct-to-consumer insurance distribution
  • You enjoy researching information and translating into insights and business recommendations
  • You can utilize quantitative approaches to generate sound business analyses and articulate findings and recommendations
  • You have an interest in pursuing, or have attained, an actuarial designation
  • You have exceptional interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), cross-collaboration and team skills
  • You can meet expected delivery dates and the tasks necessary to achieve objectives while working effectively in a team environment and are able to adapt to rapidly changing business and technological needs, with frequently changing priorities
  • You are able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and have strong organizational skills to prioritize work appropriately
  • You have proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Experience and Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required;  Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Math, Insurance or related field, or 4 additional years of related experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a degree required
  • 3+ years related professional experience with analysis and/or managing personal lines insurance product performance required
  • 1+ years of experience managing direct report(s) or managing the work of resources in a matrixed team preferred
