JOB TITLE: Bookstore Assistant Supervisor

DEPARTMENT: Chronicles Bookstore

REPORTS TO: Bookstore Supervisor

EFFECTIVE DATE: 9/1/2025

SUMMARY: The Bookstore Assistant Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Bookstore Supervisor with merchandise sales while providing high-quality customer service in a fast-paced environment. The Assistant Supervisor will be responsible for helping with traditional and online sales, as well as shipping and receiving merchandise.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide excellent customer service for face-to-face and online customers, including cashier duties, retail floor support, and phone assistance.
  • Operation of the store’s Apple iPad point-of-sale (POS) computer system.
  • Diagnose and resolve connectivity, pairing, and performance issues with Bluetooth-enabled devices.
  • Be present and assist during peak periods, including between worship services, and end-of-year inventory counts.
  • Assist in managing the online product listing by uploading high-quality images, researching pricing, ensuring product information is accurate and up-to-date to avoid customer dissatisfaction.
  • Develop and manage spreadsheets to analyze inventory trends, optimize stock levels, and improve inventory management processes to support decision-making.
  • Assist with online order processing and fulfillment; verifying items, ensuring correct quantities and product types, packing items securely for shipment, potentially using wrapping and weighing techniques.
  • Assist in maintaining a fully stocked sales floor; organize displays to achieve maximum utilization of space and eye appeal.
  • Perform routine maintenance, clean, refill, and restock all vending machines, including coffee brewer, snacks, and refrigerated drinks.
  • Troubleshoot vending issues like jammed machines, clogged dispensers, or power outages, ensuring all issues are resolved.
  • Maintains a high level of customer service by ensuring that merchandising/recovery is completed and that the register and customer service area are processing customers in a timely manner.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two to four years retail sales experience or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of retail operations.
  • Proficient in Apple software and devices; Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Comfortable navigating and adopting new technologies
  • Knowledge of social media platforms and online selling.

REQUIRED EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:

  • College Degree required.
  • Experience in retail business may be considered in lieu of the education requirement.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • On-Site, full-time position
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
  • The work requires moderate physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, repetitively lifting lightweight objects with frequent bending or stooping, and recurring lifting of moderately heavy items such as merchandise. May occasionally lift heavy objects.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to see and distinguish merchandise and operate the point-of-sale system.
  • Majority of time spent in the indoor, climate-controlled environment of a retail store.
  • Occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders/step stools.
